A good doer is one who maintains weight and condition easily and often needs very little food compared to other horses of similar breed/type/workload. Most native ponies, for example, are good doers (very, in some cases!)

Puts weight on easily, holds his weight easily through the winter etc.

Basically means easy to look after during the times its often hardest for other people.

Hope that helps! xx

A proper good doer is an animal with equine metabolic syndrome:

friend is doing 3rd year project on it and gets annoyed when people think good doers are animals that dont take much food :P! Just thought i would throw that one in there hehe

These aren't mutually exclusive definitions! The insulin resistance simply explains WHY the horse requires less in the way of nutrition.
