Baby in question is a 6month old gypsy cob, he was weaned v early at approx 3 months, he had a high worm burden when we got him (think spaghetti Poo when wormed - pramox under vet advise)
He is very hairy but typical wooly cob, on a morning when coming to turn him out he is soaking with sweat, he is wet to the touch over his chest armpits and bum
So is it likely to be anything more sinister than being too hot?

Does he have a temperature? It is very mild for the time of year and a lot of horses are getting very sweaty, but I'm not sure that such a young horse should be sweating that badly

My mini shetland has a huge coat and is frequently sweating heavily. I'm putting it down to the unusual temperatures, she is a lot older than your baby though. Maybe have a word with the vet to set your mind at rest?

do you have to bring him in a the momment? as it is very mild for the time of year and a winter coat means that he is an over heating little pony. i use to have a very hair cob which i use to bib clip and the belly worked well and at least you start the clipping training early!

Nitty is sweaty every morning at the moment. It is far too warm for her to be in with her wooly bear coat but I don't have a choice. And she is a TB and lives in a stable with only a half height front! I would expect he is just far too warm in his box.
