My mare has been on/off lame since I bought her 1 year ago, originally we always thought she had an old shoulder injury that kept re-occuring, but she deteriorated and was going more lame then she was sound. So I arranged for her to go down to the clinic a couple of weeks ago to see David (lameness specialist). They carried out basic lameness tests (inc lunging on hard ground), xrays, nerv blocks and ultra-sounds. Unfortunately the end result was that Moja has severe issues within BOTH her feet inc- damage to the soft tissue surrounding her pedal bone, problems with her pedal bone, possible issue with her deep digital flexar, ligament problems, navicular bone changes, one tendon being bigger in one foot. Although all of theese problem are apparent in both feet, some issues are worse then others so our options are very limited, David said its hard because if we try and treat one problem, it could pottentially make the other issue worse, as you can imagine I was devestated. David thinks her problems have been going on for a few years (so before I bought her) and that she would need to go for an MRI scan to see how severe the issues are and what steps to take next, she will be going for her MRI scan tomorrow. David did say that it is extremely serious and its 50/50 whether he can do anything about it. Although Moja is obviously lame and in pain- she has seemed pretty perky in herself. She took a turn for the worst over the weekend, coming in from the field extremely lame on her back and front, very much in pain, extremely moody and stressy and even tried to kick and bite me. She is on bute to help the pain.

Sadly my gut is telling me it could be the end of the road :(:(:( I have to do whats best by Moja and the fact she is in pain. Fortunately I dont have to make any decisions as yet as we have to wait for her to go for MRI first before we think of Moja's future. Regardless if anything can be done to help her issues, I have already made the decision to retire her, she has had a very hard life as an ex-eventer and sadly we think the problems stem from her compettion days.

Its been extremely tough for me and moj, this isnt the first of our list long of problems, a couple of months ago she went down with extremely bad collic but thankfully didnt have to have surgery.

Get well vibes needed for my poorly girl :(:(:(

I've had such bad luck, think someone has it in for me!
