It's been a year today since I lost my beautiful boy Felix (in my pic).
He was a complicated character, but his quirks taught me so much. He was my teacher, my confidante and my best friend. He was bought for me shortly after my Mum died by my Dad.
I had gone to a show to take my mind off all the rubbish that was going round in it and saw this gorgeous horse, with the most amazing movement, trotting around - he wasn't in a shape and was wobbling all over the place! I thought 'Wow, let me have a go on that, I would love to see how he would go with a bit of help'! So, I asked about him and he was for sale. I couldn't afford him. So I told my Dad about him and he said 'Buy him! I will lend you the money'. To cut a long story short, he became mine within 2 weeks!
He helped me through the worst time of my life, taught me loads, gave me lots of joy (and lots of grief!!), and lots of success once we clicked.
I often tried to pay my Dad back, but he always refused, saying it was worth it to see me smile.
When I had to make the decision to put him to sleep, it tore my heart out. But he owed me nothing, I owed him everything, and I felt it was the ultimate gesture of my love for him. To free him from pain. Now it was me who felt that pain. I told my Dad that he had made my dreams come true when he bought me Felix....and I will be forever grateful, as not many people can say that.
I could write so much about him, but it would go on forever! I will never forget you Felix. Run free my superstar...xxx
