My dog stinks!! she is a Bulldog so I expect her to smell a bit but she seems to have got worse over the last few months, now the smell is overtaking the house and its unbearable. I have tried to bath her regularly with different shampoos and she has clean bedding daily.
I have taken her to the vet and we have tried lots of pills etc but to no avail, she still smells bad ( its a very strong doggy smell) the vet doesnt really give me an indication of what wrong just sends me to the reception desk to get yet more pills and pay yet more money.
I really cant afford £40 every ten days or so, so I think I will change vets especially as they never tell me anything. thing is changing vets costs £30 to do in this area as you have to pay for your dog to have a thorough MOT at the new vet practice when you change over. I am assuming they will give me some pills to try which will cost more money so I will have to wait a while til I get some money together.
in the mean time does anyone have any ideas how I can help to de stink my skunky dog as she has become very unpopular in the house, the kids cant play with her at the mo cos she smells so bad and it makes them smell to.

Sounds like it might be anal glands - they are easy to sort and is just a gentle squeeze from the back end - some grooming parlours do them for you...normally if the dog smells the vet should be doing a skin test to see if she has a skin problem...
This normally requires a specialist who would come in and shave a chart looking patch on your dog where he would conduct skin tests using different samples, like house dust etc...
That is not very good that the vet is just asking you to get more pills...animals should really be treated in the same respect as humans and taking pills constanly should not be the answer.
Sometimes vet pratices can take advantage with the amount of tests which need to be done do if your dog is covered by insurance get as much done as possible to help, otherwise if not be a bit wary. Ask what they do and why they need to do it. Be bold - vets tend to talk in a scientic manner and this can cause confusion but in my vets people would normally ask lots of questions and the vets realised they needed to change their use of words. Ask as many questions as possible at the vets...if it were you at the doctors, you would ask about what is wrong with you - so dont be nervous to ask the same things and why things are being caused, what you can do to change things etc...after all you are paying for it.
With bulldogs they do have skin flaps around their mouths which can also hold bacteria and cause smell...not too sure if this might be a problem - maybe a bad tooth...?
Your vet really should be more helpful....might be worth asking to see the actually practice vet partner as they should be more caring as it is their practice - this should also not cost anymore money...
I do hope you get a result rather then just being advised to get more tablets...

hopefully you have got him smelling sweet by now but if not i think anal glands are the problems.... i have a pug and he was the same when we got him! i took him to the vets to have him sorted out it cost about £20 but saved me getting my hands dirty!! that was about a year ago and he has been fine since!

My staffie smelt terrible. He just sweated and sweated. Block sulphur in his water helped (cools them down).
What's your girl's skin like, is it moist or dry?
