Hi, anybody encountered anything like this. Yesterday bought my mare in to ride and she had a yellow stick wet patch on her side, probably 2" diameter. She was really sore on it and wouldn't let me anywhere near it. I cold hosed it for a good 10 mins and this must have numbed it up as she let me have a little look, nothing to see. Very strange. Today it is exactly the same, still really sore for her, vet coming tomorrow but just wondered if anyone has seen anything similar. Would appreciate any clues as to what it is, hate to see her so sore and sorry for herself.

My friend's horse had something that sounded very similar and it was a bad reaction to a fly bite. She now treats any other bites he gets with Fuciderm.

I'd have said a fly bite or maybe a sting from a wasp? Sounds painful whatever it is. Dermagel is fabulous for cuts, wounds etc if she's got any to put on there before the vet comes.

My horse is allergic to horsefly bites. First of all they swell up (50p size), then the following day his hair drops off the centre around where the sting went in, and yellow sticky stuff can be seen coming out of where the bite went into his skin.

some people have asked me if it's ringworm, but it definitely isn't, and the vet agreed.

thanks for replies. spoke to vet on the phone last night and he said probably an allergic reaction. Got to pick up antibiotic cream this morning. Fingers crossed it works quickly.
