Very worried...any experiences with kissing spine?

My mare (the one I posted earlier in the week about the bumpy withers) has just been diagnosed with kissing spine. Don't know the severity of it yet as she will need an x-ray at the surgery but she is awful to box so have to wait for my very patient friend to come with her trailer.

I feel absolutely dreadful, really worried about her. She appears to be very uncomfortable even just in the field. What are your experiences with kissing spine? Treatment and recovery? Thank you.

Lucklily I have never had this issue, butour back lady says that kissing spine is a problem once arthritic changes happen, this is normally when most people spot it!

I know that a Olympic prospect at our local Eventing yard has developed kissing spine- he was refusing the jumps- even at ON! He's going to have some rest over the winter and then a decision will be made as to his future.

I bought a horse as a 5 yr old who was diagnosed at 6 with this, he basically retired on Bute/ Danalon. Only spotted it as he started refusing to jump at Foxhunter level.

He's been a happy field ornament ever since and is now 21!

IMHO,I don't believe they ever fully recover from it either way.

But, all horses and cases are different nevertheless.
