WELL after waiting for nearly 12 hours, Hemir getting stressed and not eating, I was getting to the end of what i could take....and after being told that he may not be able to come out untl the morning..!! He arrived at 8.30, and confirmed what we had suspected, a 'sprained' hip joint, probably from slipping in the field....He's got very strong anti-inflamtories (sp

), and has to have a week off unless he's getting himself stressed nto working (and YES he does get stressed!) then he can be ridden in walk for 10/15 mins, unless it's clear that he's lame, we just have to see how it goes and if he's still lame after his 8 days of treatment, then get the horse vet out because it may be worse, he can't hear any strange noises, can't feel anything out of the ordinary, hsi feet are fine, he has no heat or swelling....etc...etc!! Vet has also said to keep him out, as he will be better out in the field with his girls, instead of getting stressed!!

This may not be exactly what everyone else would do, but Hemir is much happier in the field, and tbh I would rather he was happy, and the possibilty it could take longer for him to recover than have him bored in the stable, and a quick recovery, vet (who knows what Hemir is like with everything!), said it would be best!! LOL!

ok sorry for such a boring update but thanks for get well soon vibes earlier

Boyo is now back in the field munching grass!!!

So glad the vet eventually got there, better than at easter when we could not get the vet out at all. We eventually got a vet from another practice, to no avail as it turned out, but I was so cross that our vet did not come out. We have always been helpful when they have come out and always paid our bills on time, we feel that we were treated very shabbily.

Glad the vet came out today - even if it did take a long time

At least now you know what the problem is *crosses fingers* you may start seeing some improvement in a few days

Glad he arrived! Hopefully if he's out he won't get stiff either which was a big problem for my girl when she hurt her shoulder. They do like to keep us stressed don't they! (horses not vets)

Fingers crossed for a good recovery but do be warned that is how I lost my old mare some years ago. She had slipped in the field and come down with a thump, in fact the only sign of her coming down was some mud on her thighs, you couldn't see any injury, she was just hopping lame. Sadly, we lost the battle after a fortnight, it wasn't fair on her. We found she had pulped her stifle and hip, it would never have mended so at least we made the right decision.
I do wish Hemir much better luck.

thanks everyone

fingers crossed this isn't as bad, as he was clean, so we don't think he actually want down, just sort of slipped and stretched his leg the wrong way (does that make sense??!) He's looking better allready, have just been out to see them, he looked at me, whinnied and then 'walked' over!!

so fingers tightly crossed
