As some may know Caspar cut his leg open very badly to the bone 2 weeks ago. He has to have his bandage changed by the vet every 4 days or so.
Well he is the biggest wimp ive ever met! Needs sedating and even then i have to cover his eyes so i dont see whats coming! On weds vet came and changed it, and mentioned that Leahurst hadnt told her what was happening with his tendon. I was a little confused and asked her what she was on about? She then said he had severed a tendon in the process and that white big that was moving, was his tendon!
I cannot understand why nobody mentioned this too me?!
She claims he can live without it, and doesnt need it?- Im struggling to believe that he was given and extra tendon, that was needed?!

So hopefully the wound will look better, and she will have spoken to Leahurst to see what the score was regarding the tendon? I have pics of the wound every time she has re dressed it so will post the whole healing process once its abit further on. If anyones interested that is?

Further healing vibes needed!

hi, this sounds very similar to what i went through with my boy last January. we both fell backwards down a ditch & my horse cut his knee open very badly and tore an artery. the vet was coming out every 3-4 days to change bandage & was saying that he may not be able to jump again etc etc. anyway he is is completely healed now & all i can se is a tiny scar across his knee and a little one on his sternum where he got a bad puncture wound after the same fall. he is back to competing fully & we have just completed our first BE and came 12th so there you go. don't loose faith it will be ok. let me know how you get on. unfortunately i haven't got pics from the accident. kate

Thank you. I was away competing my other horse (3hrs away from home) when i got a phone call from a friend to say he was on 3 legs in the field and leg was badly cut. Recieved a pic message of the leg, and got onto vets straight away. The cut is on the side / front of his hock, so maybe not as bad as your horses front leg. It was to the bone, the bones where roughened, and he'd gone though the ligaments and muscles ect. So maybe i should of gathered the tendon would be laserated? (SP?) The tendon runs down the front of the hind leg, dont suppose anyone can confirm that the tendon is not crucial?

They took him to Leahurst, where he stayed for a week. Now hes home, hes very quiet sulking. Bless.
