I went to take 'Honey' out last night, she was fine all calm stood still while I brushed her and tacked her up - then five minutes after having her tack on she just went mad pull backed and I couldn't hold her she just wanted to get down on the floor and roll, eventually I had to let her go and she did go down and roll (luckily not right over which she can't do) she got up and I managed to catch her she was a bit worked up but I whipped the tack of quickly and let her go.

First thought was 'back' I did the initial running my hands along her back but there didn't seem to be any really sore patches bothering her - so im a little confused - she did pull back on monday when I got her ready but not to this extent - I have also noticed that she doesn't seem to pull up very well at the back when im riding her and she is very trippy and does drag her back feet, but definately not lame!

I have her on loan, so I spoke to her owner but she just said she has done it once before its just her being stupid but im really not convinced we have had horses all our lives and never seen one do this just for the hell of it!

Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be or any advice?

My horse was like that, he was difficult to tack up and would pull back. He would also feel 'underpowered' in the trot. He then started bucking under saddle so I had him x rayed and the vet check him out. When he had a hind leg flexion test, he was about 9/10th lame on both hind legs although trotted up sound before the flexion.
After extensive x rays showing no issues it was concluded he either had arthritis on the joint facets in his back pushing on the nerves or a neuroligal problem. He was PTS yesterday.
Hopefully yours is just a deep back problem.
