Thankyou to all who replyed to my other thread about getting my horse back from loan. Well vet has been and checked him out and taken bloods. And he has quite nasty mouth ulcers (whther these were caused by the hay stuck in his lip or the hay got stuck there because of them we don't know) but his white blood count is still a little low so has been fighting a virus of some sort. Another test came back slightly low too which she said indicated a trauma/virus too. Cant pinpoint how long ago but judging by his bum she has said a good month plus. Got to blood test in 10 days time to make sure things are going the right way and wash his mouth daily to help that. So lots of tlc and plenty of forage and hoprfully my big ginger beast will be back to full grumpyness soon. Thanks for reading this waffle. Just glad to know its nothing that can't be fixed.

Thats good news, what a relief to find the cause and that it can be treated fairly simply.

Be great to see some pics as he is improving !!

Still cant see how a loanee can watch a horse losing weight, that doesnt even belong to them and not call a vet, the mind boggles. Hope he is well soon and good on you for going to get him.

Didn't see your first post but glad you have had the vet out and the issue is now identified. Can I reccomend you pop him on a blood tonic if his cell count is low and he needs to gain weight? They really do work. I use haemavite b plus, I'd also reccomend you dose at the max amount (not the half measure) there are lots of good tonics to choose from, but I was reccomended the above by my vet and it is fantastic stuff I haven't tried any others so can't comment on them. it includes b vitamins to help digestion, improves appetite, boosts the immune system. It really helps to make the most of what the horse is eating. Fingers crossed for some improvement in the next bloods.
