To all of you who had ideas on what was up with Allie, my friend's horse in Nevada - just to let you know, she is now doing well. After 3 days of a stupidly high temperature, it came down to normal after being given bute and antibiotics, so it looks as if all will be well. She did eventually develop a runny nose, so it looks like it was some sort of 'flu.
The vet didn't see her - my friend couldn't contact the vet on the phone as it was a holiday weekend and felt a trip of 3 hours in the trailer to travel to the vet wasn't going to be good, so she managed to get some antibiotics and spoke to the vet later.....scary stuff - I'm so pleased our vets are only 30 min away!
