Can anyone tell me of any good vets in the Manchester area, looking into the future, if I like the horse I am going to see on Sunday, I will want a 5 stage vetting, and as I am from Kent, I have no idea what is up tat way,

Andrew melling is very good, but make sure it is him and not one of his other vets. Also Simon Constable. I personally would avoid David Eccles.

Ditto. i have Andrew Melling he is very good. would not have any of the other two especially David Eccles.

Depends where in Manchester? I use Wright & Morten in Macclesfield who cover a wide area. I have either John Yardwood or Mark ? (can't spell his surname)

Hope all goes well.

Definitely Simon Constable, all their vets are actually interested in their job and will talk to you in detail. David Eccles couldn't be less interested in what he was doing, verging on rude at the last vetting I went did for someone.

Oh how true this quote is.......

Another vote for Andrew Melling, he is my vet and he vetted my horse.

Hi,

Im looking to have a horse vetted in the area, could someone please tell me why David Eccles should be avoided? (pm if needs be)

Its just having rang a few he seemed the cheapest.

Thanks guys :-)

I did the horse handling and riding at a vetting a few months ago with David Eccles and he was completely bored with the whole thing, took minimal interest in the horse itself and instigated no conversation or opinion about the horse. I understand that he doesn't want to be held liable but you are paying for his opinion on whether that horse is suitable and sound for you, so there has to be a certain amount of conversation there to help decide whether the horse is right for the rider. In this instance the horse was a hunter who needed an easier life as he got older. The riders were two competent novices who had had some bad falls so needed a safe horse. They were completely in love with his stable manners and the way he was when they rode him the first time. When it came to the vetting I rode him and the horse was such a handful I wouldn't canter him (we were in a ten acre field.) I am a qualified instructor with 20 years riding so under my belt so am not inexperienced by any stretch of the imagination. David Eccles saw all this and passed the horse not only on soundness but on suitability for the rider.

They didn't buy the horse and didn't use David Eccles for their next vetting either.

would second this - have used w&m (and Mark Tabachnik specifically) and they are really very good, we have used them for ages.

There is only one vet worth having.......... Simon Constable Equine Vets.
They invest their time and money into the horses and improving facilities and knowledge not glossy news letters and advertising.
