Vet markup on drugs

Not if it’s left the building.
Vets can’t buy it for what the online people sell it for.
I did expect it to be more, but not by that much! Oddly enough it's the same corporate parent company, so you'd think they'd get pretty good prices, even if they bought it from the online retailer and then added their 20% profit!

I but most of my stuff straight from the vets. I’m lucky I can afford it and I appreciate them being there 24/7. But I admit the last two years Bravecto and metacam for long term use I have gone to getting prescriptions.

I remember buying Danilon for the horse and it was about £50mmore expensive from the vet, which at the time was explained to me as extra=storage at the vets. Only did it once. I also bought Indorex at the vets when I was desperate one t8me, about £20 more than online!

Sheesh, am v glad I signed up to the healthy pet club, £20 a month includes: all wormers, flea/tick treatment, annual vaccs free, plus annual appt, plus nail trims if needed! Plus 6 month weigh and health check with a vet nurse.
For another 9.99 pcm we could get all consults foc inc ooh on weekdays, drugs and treatment are charged tho.

I was on the Healthy Pet Club, but when I did the sums it was cheaper to just pay the once a year that I visit. I've just looked and it would have cost me £245.88 per year if I'd been a member, so a saving of £6. If I used flea treatment for 12 months it would be a bigger saving, but I only use it in the summer months, mainly because of ticks. I wouldn't subject mine to 6 monthly vet visits as she's not a fan of the vets at the best of times.

Several years ago one of my dogs was prescribed antibiotics, they were dispensed at the practice. When I got home I found they contained either chicken or beef, I can't remember, which he was allergic to. As it was their error, he was under their care for his allergies, they took them back and gave me a prescription for the human version of exactly the same antibiotic. The animal version was about 10x the price of the human equivalent.

Often the case
Legally though you can’t prescribe a human version of an animal version exists ( unless there’s a very good reason )
This has made a lot of drugs more expensive
It is currently under review though, with possibly cost/ affordability being a valid criteria for using the human version.
