So I am thinking about being a vet nurse and just wondering if there's any on here can give advice, have some questions like 1 should I do the degree or NVQ?
How hard is it financially? How much practical experience would be needed before applying? Which colleges do the courses? ( I know of Hartpury already)
I have 3 ponies how practical would it be to do the training with 3 ponies, should I look at cutting back? How hard is the course? ummmm I'll think of more questions

ima vet nurse maybe i can help? Lots and lots of colleges run the course.. just check out your local ones.
Are you looking to be a VN or a EVN (Equine VN) ? As far as having your ponies depends very much which vet placement you get and where. it will then depends on your wages / work patterns etc. Vet nursing does often mean long unsociable hours and not great pay esp when training. BUT it is an incredibly rewarding career and I should know ive been doing 17 years!

to briefly answer your other questions.....
which course you do depends on how long you want to study for and probably the deciding factor will be how many placements in clincs near you. They are very hard to come by and may prefer to take NVQ or degree students. I would get in touch with the college you wish to attend as a first step and go from there. They can then see from your grades and expectations which course is most appropriate for you :)

I was thinking about becoming a vet nurse at one point.

I found it very useful doing a few days work experience in the holidays while i was still at college doing my as/ a levels.

Luckily someone who used to be a livery at the yard where i am managed a vets practice and i used to look after her horse while she was on hols so I spoke to her and she kindly arranged for me to do a couple of days work exp at her practice. It was very interesting as I got to watch a few operations and also helped out with the "less glamorous" tasks eg cleaning cages/ equipment.

It may be worth writing a letter to some practices in your area and seeing if they would let you do a few days?
