Reading the vet bashing thread and how difficult it is for vets plus how little some clients appreciate them I was already thinking about a little present for my vet but even more so now.
I was thinking a card and chocs for the receptionists/other staff but would like something a little more for the vet that is helping us with our dog as he is ill and this vet has given us so much support and advice throughout.
Does anyone have any ideas what we can get as a thank you?

Your vet will 100% appreciate ANYTHING you give that is for them specifically. It’s often the smallest things that mean the most. I would love a double ended sharpie pen that had a fine tip so I can write in blood tubes and microscope slides! Or a little keyring in the shape of your pet with ‘thank you’ on it. Or, an edible item that doesn’t need to be shared - most of the time the shared chocs go in the break room and as vets rarely get breaks they miss out on those as they are all gone before we make it up there!
thank you for being so thoughtful

I used to get my vet practice chocolates for Christmas, only a box of Roses or Quality Street but its the thought that counts.

But then I heard that one of the partners in the practice strongly frowns on 'people being fat or eating chocolate'. Apparently he used to keep back the tins of sweets and biscuits that I and others bought and dish them out in dribs and drabs to keep his staff's weight down.

I'm not sure how much of this is true, the person who told me wouldn't have made it up though.

I also bought his wife some more expensive chocolates as a thank you for something she helped me with and she never even bothered to thank me at the time, or afterwards.

So I never bothered doing anything like that again.

Thanks everyone (I stalked his FB page and there is a pic of him in a bar with a drink).
Some of these I had thought of and others are awesome that I wouldn't have.

Redders - some good points there and that's a shame regarding not getting a chance to have any of the yummies brought in as a thank you but my vet is reasonably small BUT they have a few locations so the vet sometimes works out of a different practice. Really like the keyring idea and the sharpie.
Jennie- that is awful as yes we need to watch our own weights etc but surely that's for the employees to decide for themselves. Although you don't do it to get a thank you it is also disappointing not to have any acknowledgement.
Roxy - that's really sweet.
SEL - Not sure they'd appreciate my home baking efforts :D
Anna - I thought of that and then second guessed myself.

I gave mine a bottle of Bolly. My vet seemed pretty happy about that. The farrier just gets a bottle of red if lucky!!

Luckily my vet is a father/daughter team so when I wanted to get him a thank-you present I just texted his daughter to find out his tipple of choice!

Celebrations or heros are the favoured chocolates in most practices.

however we’ve had a few wonderful souls hand in multi bags of crisps and packs of coke/Diet Coke

it was like a feeding frenzy that everyone loved.

From a card point of view - my favourites are the cards with pictures of the pet in question on them, like the ones you can make on moonpig. I have them all pinned up above my desk and it's nice to look up at them every so often and remember (even if most of them are no more, unfortunately!)

I normally get edible treats as gifts but folk forget i dont consume gluten or sugar....so OH gets them and i enjoy them vicariously through him! So a bottle of bolly tends to be a better bet...or even just a gift card so they can spend it on something specific they want/need...
