Hi

I am looking to get a horse that I would like to buy 5-stage vetted but have to use a vet local to the horse could anyone in the Altrincham area advise on reputable vets in the area.

Many Thanks

Gillivervet in Chorley should cover that area, also Hirds in Halifax.

There are also Andrew Melling and Simon Constable.

I'd be a bit surprised if someone would come from Halifax to Cheshire to do a vetting. Or from Chorley for that matter if you mean Chorley, Lancs as opposed to Chorley, Wilmslow.

It's Chorley, Lancs and it is one of their areas. They are my vet and I live in Saddleworth so much farther away than Altrincham :) As far as I'm aware Hirds cover some of South Manchester (or they used to but I haven't used them in a while)

Wow, I wouldn't want to be in the position of having to wait for them to come out over that sort of distance in an emergency. My old vet was in Altrincham so was only 10 minutes away. Ashbrook was 30 minutes away depending on how bad the traffic was in Knutsford (the centre of the Universe since every road in the world seemed to converge there!) and that was quite bad enough when things were dire.

I know what you mean but TBF they are pretty good at getting out - a few of the vets actually live in my area and they do have an awful lot of clients in my area. So far (touches wood frantically) the longest I've had to wait is half an hour - having said that I've never needed an emergency visit during rush hour, my lot have only ever had emergencies on Sundays or early hours of the morning :)

The 2 equine vets that are very near to me I wouldn't use.
