One of my horses is on Prascend, so I get a regular prescription from the vet and buy online. In the past, the vets have happily e-mailed me a scanned prescription which I then send on to the online supplier. This time I asked for a scan of the prescription and one of the vets said no because it is illegal. It surely can't be? I had a quick look online and it looks like it's illegal in the US, but there is nothing to say it can't be done in the UK.
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.

I've always bought my Danilon online, and it's never been dispatched without the company having the vet's wet signature on the original prescription note.

As others have said - you still need a hard copy of a prescription to dispense. Otherwise they could be altered electronically or items ordered repeatedly from different suppliers on the same prescription. I don't think it is "illegal" as such. But it certainly can't get you your supplies.

But I've done it many times in the past - all the main online suppliers accept scanned prescriptions.... I feel like I've fallen into some sort of parallel universe here....

Me too - one (Animed? can't remember) was happy with an electronic version, others have despatched with the e version but asked for the hard copy to be sent. What would they do if it never arrived I wonder?

Yes - Animed have 'e-mail' as one of their options for supplying the prescription. Glad I'm not going mad! I've never posted one yet. What a pain that they are changing things, surely it should be getting easier to do things electronically, not more difficult!!

It's not supposed to be easy though to get hold of prescription meds - I think that is the point

Sorry, don't agree with that at all - it should be difficult to get things that are not prescribed to you, not difficult to get things that are!! Given the amount of other things that happen online that need high security (e.g. banking), surely there is a way to make electronic prescriptions work.

Actually it would be pretty difficult to do that - there's nothing stopping people using the same electronic prescription to get multiple amounts
