Both Tawny and Scout are off to the vets today.
Tawny for her acupuncture, which is overdue (me bad) and she’s very sad and uncomfortable. Vet said last time maybe to use librella as well, loxicom makes absolutely no difference, she’s been on a weeks trial and is still in just as much pain. She’s usually great for a few weeks after acupuncture so hopefully will be again.
Scout got some scabby sores at the end of January, I think where he got barbed wire or thorns in him. They still haven’t healed, they aren’t infected any more but if he knocks the scabs off he is sore and they are still pink and damp. He’s also too skinny in spite of loads of good food.
I thought I’d take a urine sample? And ask if they’d run bloods? Any other thoughts.

I know no one is very interested (thank you CT) but this is how T is standing. She won’t lie down. This started maybe 3 days ago, but only briefly. She didn’t have loxicom last night as vet today and it’s much worse.
She’s definitely spreading her legs to my eye. Any thoughts? Poor T 😔 . I can’t see this is caused by her bad neck?

Could scout be running on his nerves so to speak that’s why he’s skinny? My lab was always skinny until he had the superlorin (neutering) implant now he’s a pig and on a diet 😆

Hope the acupuncture works for T

How does she carry her head ? My old GSD started standing similar to that but always with her head low, she seemed fine out on walks apart from the low head again. Sadly scans showed she had a couple of issues in her spine/neck and at 12.5 years, and given it was during covid and every vet visit she was taken away from me, I decided to let her go. Hopefully a change in pain relief will help Tawny.

She’s shuffled a couple of steps and turned side on.
She’s still absolutely sound on walks, keen to come, she doesn’t run about but potters happily and hunts mice, behaves entirely as always. She just doesn’t seem to be able to settle in the house.
Are you going to get the librella? I’m holding off for Bear because the swine canters round the woods and has decided climbing up the sheer crater from the bomb in the war is his current favourite thing, plus he’s comfortable at home after an initial couple of steps (like me! You’d think I was crippled sometimes)

She does look sore. Would she tolerate a massage therapist? Not someone who would yank her about, but more fascia release type stuff.

Next doors two collies are in season and keep peeing on our front gate, he is eating his kennel so a bit stressed. It’s more the slow/non healing cuts that worry me.

Re the odd stance and her neck, my appy developed an odd gait, sort of lame in trot on one front leg, cured by acupuncture on her neck! So it might be related?

She has had two historic fairly severe neck injuries and without an MRI best guess is a nerve being pinched at times when she lies in a certain way. She has been x rayed and all looked fine. I wonder if the not lying down is in expectation of pain. She does carry her head a bit low and does not like too much handling around it.
She’s 10 now and has had an injury packed life but she’s generally so well in herself I hope we have years yet.
Acupuncture definitely works, my fault for being late booking then two cancellations. But I’ve never seen her as bad as this.

Yes she will have it. I think not today, as I would like to see if the acupuncture is as successful as always, but if vet agrees then in 2 weeks time so she alternates acupuncture and pain relief in steps.
Will also speak about referral as SD suggests.

My vet prescribed 1 paracetamol plus 1 tralieve a day as well as his daily dose of loxicom for my border collie as a cheaper & easier thing to try before going down the librella route. Hope you can get your dogs sorted.

I had a t touch person but only once as she was awful afterwards, twitching terribly. They rather put me off although T enjoyed it at the time and the practitioner did say you need repeated treatment to work.
I massage her myself and would definitely take her to one but I’m not sure about accreditations and so on.

She’s tried paracetamol, but I admit not at the same time as loxicom. Will see what vet says.

My previous Dobe bitch would walk along then her rear end would collapse, my vet thought it was possibly pinched nerves and suggested acupuncture. I was referred to a vet/acupuncturist, the results were amazing. The first 2 sessions were 10 days apart then 6 weekly then going to twice a year. Darcy used to love going and would sing through the whole session with her tail wagging. When we arrived for our sessions and she got out the car and realised where she was she couldnt wait to get inside.

I just hope you get the same results for your dog Clodagh.

Tawny is like that, we normally go monthly and have been going for a year or so now. She drags me into the waiting room and is positively embarrassing with her enthusiasm!
She looks so bad at the moment though, and it’s only a few weeks over a month, I’m worried she’s worsened.

She’s had a good 25 minute session today. She will come back for a review and librella in two weeks if she doesn’t need to be seen sooner. If that doesn’t improve things we will refer to specialist again.
Scout has got either a fungal infection, or a staphylococcal infection. He’s got special shampoo and antibiotics. She doesn’t think he’s worryingly thin, but is underweight. They are running a full blood panel to check.
Also getting bravecto and wormers for them all. I feel some overtime shifts coming on. 😃

Blood panel was worrying, (I did last post while waiting for it) elevated something which is kidney function. They’ve had Alabama Rot in the area although it seems unlikely to be that as he’s not worsened in the 3 weeks since the first spot. Leaving a urine sample in the morning (stupidly I didn’t take one as I thought he looked so bright eyed and bushy tailed) on my way to catch the train to London. My poor mum who is dog sitting will have to deal with any urgent consequences.

A fellow walker mentioned Alabama Rot to me last week. It’s made me paranoid given we only go to very muddy woods.

Re the pink spots, are they a bit like hotspots? When Brig had lots pop up altogether, I puffed on athletes’ foot powder, miracle cure!
