Never to a joint account, we've both been married before.
Tiddlypom has hit the nail on the head by saying it's all about my independence, I have never not worked and really can't see me starting (or stopping, YKWIM!).
I feel that with people our age (50's) supposedly less likely to die than those over 60 we may have been dumped on with sufficient bad news for a week or two.

Well there is only you and your OH who decide whether it is worth you continuing to work in fear or not. If not, you will have to work out a way of you having independent access to money that he doesn't question.
