What is an "acceptable" difference on vet weighbridges?

J weighed:

RVC: 612KG

Normal Vet: 564kg

Less than 2 weeks apart?

Is that normal to be so different?

Yes I would say so .
They have a hard life, calibration is difficult however if you are weighing your horse on the same one to monitor gain or loss it does not matter .

Unless something happened to make the horse seriously drop weight in that time such as a serious illness. I know the one at the RVC, was the other vets the same sort of set up? Were there any issues getting the horse to stand still in the right place on either?

I had similar between vets weighbridge and a feed company weighbridge last year- big difference in weight, not far apart.
She goes/went on the vet one quite regularly, so I view it the same way as I view a weightape - I just want to know if her weight has gone up or down, that's what I'm mostly monitoring. I took the vet weight as the one of interest to me and pretty much discarded the feed company one.

So it doesn't surprise me you can get different weights, I presume his weight didn't change that drastically in that period of time! I'd go with whichever is closest to what the weigh tape says.

I had the same with vets versus feed company but I assume the feed company one i more likely to be incorrect as it is setup afresh on the day and sometimes in a less than ideal surface, my experience was in an uneven carpark.

He walked on both of them and stood quietly. Both looked similar set ups but RVC one looked "newer" I guess.

I would have taken it the same as a weightape but just the difference shocked me. A few kgs yes but not that much.

Anyway..... I weigh taped him after RVC so I know roughly where we are there.

Yes they probably need to have it calibrated. We had a weighscale at work that weighed wool bales between 100 and 500 kgs, regularly weighing 40/50 items per day. It was never more than a couple of kilos out at yearly inspection
