Hi guys,

I'm thinking of doing a veteran ridden class this summer with my 20yo ISH. What exactly will be expected, and what should we both wear? I haven't done much showing and have no idea what would be expected.

Thanks :)

If you go onto the Veteran Horse showing website and look at the rule book it covers everything you need to know. If you follow their standards for affiliated VHS showing and non affiliated classes you wont go far wrong.

Good Luck

Providing he's a hunter type, he ought to have:
Brown bridle (black would do for local level) - double or pelham are most correct but if he goes well in a snaffle that'll do. I think you might need to wear a bridle number showing his age if it's an affiliated class, best to check with the sec. Plain cavesson noseband, plain browband.
Brown saddle (again, black would do at local) and a discreet numnah.
Plaited mane and pulled tail (which should also be cut to the correct length, level with the hocks when moving).
Whiskers trimmed, beard trimmed, ears trimmed and feathers off.

You'll need:
A tweed jacket (green tweed is best)
Shirt (canary/lemon yellow) and tie that goes with your jacket.
Lemon breeches.
Leather boots.
Brown gloves.
Navy blue hat.
Brown show cane.
Make sure you're wearing NO jewellery or spurs - not allowed in vets!

You'll have to walk, trot and canter on both reins, then do a short individual show showing trot and canter on both reins. Short and sweet is the aim of the game! Also, no galloping allowed in veterans.
