Just wondering if anyone has ever competited in these events?
And if so whats the standard like?
In the showing class what exactly would you need to do, ie is it as simple as just doing a little show?

Any info greatly appreciated
Thanks

I've done a couple of these at local shows - basically you show your horse exactly as you would for any other class - it's just that they're older! You also get a mix of types, so you need to show them in the correct style. My horse is a hunter type, so I show him plaited up, in a double bridle, flat noseband etc; but my friend's vet is a traditional cob type; so she shows him (in the same class) with full mane and feathers etc.

Competed in them up to last year. Run exactly as a normal show class, ie you do an individual show in the ridden. You and your horse should be turned out according to his type, ie hunter, show pony, native, etc.

The only other thing I would recommend is that you get hold of a copy of the VHS rule book and have a read. Just to warn you, it's long and extensive. For example, no jewellery on you, and they are quite precise about what they describe as "excessive coloured browbands" (!) and no use of make up (on the horse) or vast amounts of baby oil or other showing bling. No spurs and no galloping is allowed during the show (or in the practice ring)

The picture of the bay showing in hand in my siggie was taken at a VHS qualifier when he was 23 - when I did it the classes were mixed in hand and ridden but I think they split them now. (he won by the way
