Just wondering if you think it's worth joining? And how much does it cost? I did a show with my mare last year and she won the veteran championship but because i wasn't a member I couldn't go forwards.
I'm looking at joining if i enjoy some showing (see post below), i've got a 24yo cob i'd like to show in-hand and also a 15yo NF and a 16yo NF who will hopefully, if all goes well have a foal at foot each, and i'd like to show them both in-hand as well.
You should go for it especially if your horse won the Championship last year!
Which show do you qualify for? Did you show under saddle?
I write about 15 paras ranting about the VHS, then deleted it all as there is no point! Few pointers for you:
Make sure your tack is spotless
Don't worry too much about the horse being sound as long as it has its ears forward
Don't wear earrings
Don't wear spurs
Don't gallop in the class otherwise you will not be marked for your canter
Make sure you don't have another class for at least 2 hours after the start of the VHS ridden class as they go on for what seems like days
I qualified for the regionals in my first (and only) VHS class. Not sure whether I will bother next year. They need to standardise their judging criteria before the classes can be taken more seriously.
the standard of judging leaves a bit to be desired. i only did one class and qualified for regionals a few years ago, but judging was rubbish so didn't bother again. judge didn't even know that spurs weren't allowed and placed a girl wearing them 1st!
my horse is now 21 and i really want to do veteran showing with him, but wasn't very impressed with the standard last time.
