Have been at London International this week I’ve decided to aim my 14.1hh lightweight cob at the veteran horse society working hunters in the grand hopes of qualifying for the championship at the London international one day. (She’s 17yo) so a few years to try. However she is hogged. Do I need to grow her mane back for working hunter classes?

Yes you show to type. The LIHS veteran classes are Senior Showing and Dressage. The Veteran Horse Society has its championship at Arena UK and is great fun with huge variety of classes and championships Then at LIHS there are the amateur rising star classes which include the working hunter. Hope that helps.

So at London it’s only the SSADL classes which are specifically for veteran horses, either in hand or ridden, which are held in the main ring. The worker classes are the amateur classes, but depending on your age you probably won’t be eligible for them as an adult on a pony.

The adult on a pony isn’t a VHS rule

No, but that’s irrelevant as no working hunter classes at LIHS are affiliated to the VHS. The rising star classes are affiliated to the BSHA, the veteran classes to SSADL and the pony classes to the BSPS.

If you’re really up for trying to qualify your best bet would be to join SSADL (different to VHS) and go the flat or in hand veteran route. You won’t be eligible for the other organisations as BSHA classes only cater to horses and the BSPS classes are all for kids on ponies bar the natives. It’s a bit of a minefield!

I’m not interested in BSHA classes so that doesn’t matter anyway, Thankyou though
I did have a little took and you would be eligible for the working sports pony not exc.158 as there is no age limit. But to answer your original question yes she would be plaited and it’s open to all age of horse not just veterans. And you’ll need a BSPS membership if qualified.
