Hi, as so many I had a hike in insurance fees this year (been with NFU for 8 years) and phoned them to find out how I can get it cheaper. Now they told me that once my horse is 17 I could get veteran cover, this excluding cover for illness. Is that of any concern/ or good? My girl will be 17 next year and I think she is long off from being too old to ride or too old to acquire any illness (e.g what about arthritis ect coming about?)

In my research I got a quote from PetPlan saying their veteran cover is not starting til age 25 and tempted to think that this sounds more like my idea of coverage.

Also not sure if I could carry on insuring her with NFU normal and not go veteran or will they make it veteran automatically?

and what do other reputable companies do?

THanks

Not sure about other companies but i went back to petplan this year as horse 18yr old and i wanted to keep him insured as long as possible on a normal cover. Their premiums have gone up since last insured with them couple of year ago.
