For all those who have Veterans, which insurance company are you with and do they cover for illness?

After the insurance company I have been with for years refused to pay up recently I am contemplating just putting a bit of money aside each month for vet bills, but not sure what the best thing to do is.

Yes I am with E&L and it's so cheap will probably stay with them in case of an accident. Maybe I was just being stupid thinking they would cover for illness!!

Are there any insurance company's that will cover over 16's?

I have just taken out insurance on my 18 year old with Petplan. If you insure before their 20th birthday then they will cover you on their normal horse insurance for full vets fees until the horse reaches the age of 25. Its costing me about £430 per year but covers for injury or illness.

It will cost a lot less than that if you insure them for a nominal value. My mare in reality has a negative value as there is no way of getting rid or her without paying for it. She is now insured for £400, and as she is retired, when the policy renews she will be a group one use so only around £10 a month for full cover, less her exclusions for her conditions, until she is 25.

I also have third party liability insurance and personal accident insurance through my WHW membership (BHS membership is the same) which covers both my horses and is not on their individual policies so that is much cheaper too.

My boy is group 2, not retired...happy hacker! He is only insured for a nominal value (had a look at what I could realistically expect to get if I were to sell him - not that I ever would!).
