Hi, my 25-28 yr old veteran mare is slowly coming off box rest since August. She has lost a lot of muscle anyway, and the box rest hasn't helped.
She is being walked for about 15/20 mins daily as well as being turned out in a small paddock for 1/2 hour.
The walks and time in the paddock are being increased weelky.

Recently i've noticed her muscle has wasted a lot more. My vet has reccomended that I look at putting her on Equitop Myoplast- a protein type supplement used to improve muscle.

Has anyone used it?
What do you think of it?

Any help is appreciated...! Thank You! :D

This is what she looked like shortly before her injury:

And this is what she looks like now- she had just rolled hence the dirt/dust on her:

Never used it but I know some on here have and they gave me some excellent feedback about it when I was considering it. Also have a look at the blood tonic haemavite b plus, it's fantastic stuff and is what I went for in the end, I liked it so much I reviewed it on my website the links in my sig, you can buy it online and I believe they use it a lot in the racing industry. It really helps them make the most of what they are eating and also increases appetite. When I asked my vet about EM he suggested the haemavite tonic with a probiotic (I used protexin) instead.

Is she getting sufficient protein in her diet to start with? You could look at supplementing lysine which is the amino acid most likely to be limiting in the equine diet.

^^^Copra is low in Lysine? Are you thinking of Soya which has high Lysine? Also Alfalfa & Sugarbeet are good sources too.
OP, If you look in Feeding there are some very informative recent threads on building muscle & condition & on Myoplast.
