Veteren horses ! How old is yours? Are you still riding and competing?

its wonderfull for everyone to be able to see pictures of your horses too, there is not one on here where the horse actually looks anywhere near its age im gobsmacked and they are all nicely covered with good muscle definition. I laugh my head off at home the two old timers are naughtier and more loopy than my three year old .They run rings round me sometimes when i need to bring them in and my youngster just walks straight up to me to be caught.Crazzzzzzzzy!!!!!

This is my mare poppy and she is 23 and was still jumping up to september but had to call it a day because she has retinal detachment.

but we still hack every day and go galloping down the beach when tide is right. She jog's everywhere and still put's in the rears when she wants to. Because we cant jump any more we are going to try veteren classes next summer if her eyes are ok. we done a class end of this summer and we got a 6th place which is'nt bad seeing as all she's ever done is jump and run round with her head in the air!

just need to calm her down a bit!

My friend had a 30 year old section D. She hacks him 6 days a week. Rode out with her yesterday and boy did he have the devil in him. We had a little canter and no way was he going to let me and Doll pass him.

had one at last yard that died last year at the ripe ole age of 38/39. two at my yard are both old, about 30 and the other i think is just under (i think) and yes very good lives. the older one looks bad at the mo but has a new lease of life now he has befriended my boy

my girl is a young veteran at 17yrs, she is ridden 4-5 times a week, hacking mainly, 1-2hrs each time, sometimes 2-3hrs
she was doing cross country up until last year but i want her to take it easier now as her joints are getting older etc
she could probably happily do xc still, but i molly coddle her instead!
grin.gif
i just want her to take it easier and keep nice and active in the hope this will be the recipe to keeping her going for a good time yet by taking it steady

Ive got 4 veterans
stan is 18 still in full work, he doesnt jump but then again he never has (he hates it), he qualifies every year for the VHS regionals, he loves working. he's not stiff at all

rian is 17 and doing light hacking only due to injuries to his back. he is slightly stiff but more from his injuries then from his age

Pride is 26 still hacking out, still showing, qualifies every year for VHS regionals, hes very happy in his work and likes going out for hacks, if you go out on any of the others he stands at the gate and screams till you take him out too. he is amazingly not stiff at all.

harvey is 26, and almost completely retired (goes out once a month with a toddler on his back), he is quite stiff in his hocks but that i think is due to his very high milage

all of them live out the majority of the time, stan is rugless but all the rest are well rugged. i believe that keeping them out prevents them from stiffening up.
