Has anyone used this with their dog? Any experiences welcome.

My beagle has suddenly become quite lethargic. I thought it was a virus but when I took him to the vets this morning I've been faced with some sticky options.
He's always had a slight murmur but on taking him to the vets this morning the vet straight away thought it was his heart after checking it. He's had bloods done too but they won't get sent off until Monday. He doesn't fit many of the classical signs of CHF but this is the road we are taking. I trust my vet implicitly, we were both crying in the consultation room.

I'm in absolute bits. I've had my boy since he was a puppy at 8wks and I was a kid. He'll be 13 tomorrow. He's had a steroid injection and has started this Vetmedin and we are to review on Monday. If he's no better I need to strongly consider PTS. It's not fair to him to carry on.

I'm crying buckets just writing this. Life can be so unfair at times.

I have nothing helpful to say, but I have a dog exactly the same age and unfortunately it is something that is always on your mind. Just take each day as it comes and make sure he's happy and content. Happy birthday to him for tomorrow and I hope the results come back ASAP for you x

Thanks GinaB. He is my first and only dog and I do constantly have it at the back of my mind.

Since posting he seems a lot more active - he's had a drink, been outside to the loo and has even joined me upstairs. Hopefully the steroids have kicked in and he's feeling a little better.

My 1st dog was on Vetmedin for the last couple of years of his life, he was still quite active, I lost him when he was nearly 16 years old.

Lots of my mum's dogs have been on Vetmedin over the years - my own 11 year old greyhound is on Cardarlis, which is half-way between Vetmedin and Frusemide (in laymans terms!) - it has always done them some good, they have had a good quality of life and have enjoyed themselves for the last couple of years of their lives.

I had the same situation with my first whippet, I got her when I was 17 years old and she was my first proper dog, I lost her when she was 15 years old - I really feel for you, it is so hard :(
