so i have recently taken an oldie on loan, hes settled in well and his owner has said that if at the end of the inital "trial " period ( xmas) he's still happy and settled and i still want him then she will gift him to me.

Now this offer has blown me away, horse is in excellent health, has always been well looked after and treatment always given if needed, no money spared. He rides and behaves a good 10yrs younger.

horse is now 22yrs old, so am wondering about insurance- who do you have your vetrans insured with?? as im aware that insurance becomes more limited with age.

TIA

Is he insured at the moment? If so, your best bet is to speak to his current insurer. Most companies will cover veterans for external injuries, and a few (Petplan, KBIS and Shearwater that I know of) will continue full cover (illness and injury) for horses into their twenties, but I don't know any companies that would take on a 22yo horse on full cover as a new client.
