I posted about 6 weeks ago when my filly had her accident & fractured her shoulder & punctured her eye.
Well the vet came out Friday for her 6 week review. He is very happy with how the bone is healing naturally

(although she may still need surgery). BUT he is now saying that due to the severe nerve damage, there is alot of muscle wastage & her ligaments are very weak. He thinks she is a little more sore than she should be at this stage. Ligaments are not a strong area of mine, but I do know where ligaments are involved, recovery can be a long process??? He has taken her off Danillon completely & given her another month on box rest before he comes out again to review.

Could anyone advise me of the time spans involved with ligaments? Is it advantageous that she is so young she will heal quicker? I spent so long researching fractures & now this has thrown me off abit!!! Thanks all...

I'm no expert by any standars but ligaments do often take longer to heal than bones. It's a long slow process trying to get them back to their original strength and elasticity. Some people swear by steady work, others use tense and pulse machines etc. Shockwave is used sometimes to. There's a hole raft of treatment avliable so I'd say stick with your vet and go with what ever he suggests is best for your horse.
Don't go reading too much and scare yourself either.

It's brilliant news that the fractures healing nicely.

My tb did a ligament when he was 5 it took 12 weeks before we started rehabilitation /walking out etc.I did put him out but in restricted paddocks and linked them so he couldnt trot or canter although he managed to buck spin and rear on the odd occassion.I didnt do anything strenous like jumping for 6 months but never had another problem. As long as you give her plenty of time to heal and go with your vets advice Im sure she will be fine.My boy was stiff for a while and the vet gave him some injections which really helped not sure if they were cortisone but it boosted the cartalidge.I hope shes ok good luck
