Can anyone suggest a decent vet practice to do a vetting on a horse in emley (wakefield/huddersfield) area?
I usually have chruchfields to my horse but as they also deal with the horse I am buying they will not vet it. Could you recommend someone else? Thank you

peter scholefield - Hird & Partners if you can get him.
Very thorough, alot of Dressage people use him - although our new Dressage horse was taken to him for a 5* vetting by the seller (he spent about 3-4 hours on him) - oh and he passed. He's a lameness specialist too, so is good for vetting competition horses

Equine Vet practice at Gap Farm, Moorhouse, Doncaster/Wakefield border. Several vets, pure equine practice - 01977 652280

Unfortunately Hirds can only do following Wednesday and if I want a friday it will have to be at least two weeks this Friday before they can do it. I'll see if the owner can make Wednesday.
Moorhouse said too far away

Unfortunately I would say Phil Dixon at Churchfields everytime - vetted both of mine. My youngster's owner had Phil as their vet though - he just made a note of it on the bottom of the vetting certificate.

Next up would be Mick at Donaldsons? He's been out to mine a few times and never had any problems. Haven't had naything vetted by them though.

I know, I really rate Phil too

unfortunately they won't come out because they are already the vets for the horse I want vetted. I had a very thorough vet do my first horse but a bit far to come from Stafford

Have to hope owner can make next Wednesday - gives me more time to order the equimats.

Another vote for Minster Equine - have practices in York and Doncaster. Unfortunately I have become familiar with both practices(!) and can recommend them completely!!

Will they come out as far as Emley? Moorhouse in Doncaster said it was too far to come

I've known the horse for 2 years and he has never been slightly sick but don't want to tempt fate by not getting a vetting...I've already had my car run out of warranty only for both the gearbox and clutch to go

Amazed you got a date with Hird & Partners. Also to add we use Aireworth vets at Keighley for day to day, and they are really good equine vets - you want Louise or John only though.
I would still prefer Peter for a vetting, but if you know the horse it's less of a Risk. Ours had come from Holland and having been bitten by a horse that had a previous undetected injury we didn't want to take a chance.

I would also recommend Mick at Donaldsons or Kat who also is a vet there. Both very good, thorough and very approachable and actually have time for you to ask all sorts of questions. Very well thought of at my yard.
