Just after some advice really

My sis took my boy to the vets to get a cushings blood test done and also a general blood test done.

She said the vet just used a normal syringe to draw the blood and not the normal equipment. Is it normal to do that? All the times they have taken blood off my horses they have never done it by this method.

To worry me even more at one point the vet was drawing back the syringe and let go of the end :-S

Not sure if I'm just being totally paranoid, I have spoken to one of the ppl at the vets and I'm waiting to hear back

That sounds normal to me - you can either use the vacum tubes to take a blood sample or you can use a normal syringe. The pulling back and releasing of the plunger encourages the blood flow into the syringe and is fine. The vet will then have transferred the blood into the appropriate vacum tube. It does tend to be down to the individuals preference as to how they draw blood

It sounds perfectly normal to me to use a normal syringe to draw blood and I am a Vet. What do you consider normal equipment? vacumn tubes? I hate using them personally and its all personal preference. Using a syringe and draw release draw works just as well...or am i misunderstanding/missing something.
