A friend of mine has found a horse she would like to buy subject to a 5 stage vetting. The horse is in the Leeds area.

Does anybody know of any credible equine vets that cover that area for vettings please?

Many thanks xx

ledston, churchfield vets (penistone), minster (york) and rainbow (malton) might travel aswell.

Thank you Loopy! My friend had asked a local vet that her instructer uses and they were unable to fit it in for a number of weeks.

Our yard uses Minster (North Lincolnshire), I know she wanted to approach Sue from the Bawtry practice, but if she was unable to make it, she wanted reliable vets in the Leeds area.

My other friend uses Rainbow.... I went with her when we took her horse to have his jont flushed out, and I was very impressed with them. Maybe worth a call if all else fails! xx

Depends which side of Leeds you're looking for.

Forrest House in Knaresborough - Graham Barlow is great. Pardon my frankness Graham or anyone knowing him reading this - slightly off the wall, but brilliant!

Nr Ripon - Stirks Vets, either Stuart or Emily are excellent. This practice is an equine specialist rather than a general practice.

Thank you very much Pampered Ponies. With reference to Graham - the best vets are usually better with animals than people from my experience LOL! I am not sure what part of Leeds it is, but I am sure my friend will find your post helpful. Thank you! xx

He did my 5 stage vetting and the lady I got her from remembers him to this day and still quotes from the session - 2 years later. He's worth the fee for entertainment alone! Seriously though, don't want to give the wring impression - he's fab with people as well as animals. Just slightly eccentric:D

LOL, better than being miserable. I was once present at a vetting, and the vet was was the most miserable mope ever. As soon as he realised the horse was an ex-racer, the vetting was doomed. Before he even started he declared his dislike for ex-racers. Suffice to say, he failed the horse. What did he find wrong? Nothing as such, save the horse had more muscle on one side of his bum than the other. Perhaps this was due to the fact they race anti clockwise all of the time.... xx

Agreed with recommendation for Hirds - if not Peter, then Chris or Elliott but am afraid I don't know their surnames. Also have friends who are very happy with John Baird at Wetherby.

Would second John Baird (Hutchinson Dunlop and Baird, Wetherby), equine specialist, brilliant guy, has his own horses and really knows his stuff. Gordon Dunlop is brilliant too from the same practice but John would be my preference!

To be pedantic, Peter's surname is Scholefield not Schofield as some have said although the pronunciation is the same! It's Chris Luckett he's Hird's teeth guru on top of being an excellent horse vet . Sorry, I don't know Elliott's second name but he did have a fabulous head of hair (for those old enough think Bruno in Fame circ 1980!) when he treated my horse with shockwave treatement for suspensories. I did spot him up at shelf the other week and sadly it's a little more 'shorn' than it was 2 years ago.

Sorry I digress - blame the 2nd bottle of rose opened this evening.

Ledstone vets are good, and are a horsepital. Superb facilities and Very nice people as well.

(They did Star's surgery when she had her eye removed and treated her like a princess. Her box had leaded windows lol :D)
