So someone had a call out today with the vet who's been treating Kelly for her mild pedal bone rotation - since he last saw her, she's been reshod (by someone who used to work for our vet) with proper heart bar shoes, and is now being hacked out upto an hour a day in walk. So I thought I'd just collar him and ask him to give her the once over :)
He asked to see her walk and said she is still flicking one foot a little, but nowhere near as much as before. He also said he's very pleased with her and we'll continue to see steady improvement over the next 12 months. We just need to carry on with the corrective shoeing (obv) and he thinks it will begin to correct itself over (lots of) time! :)

I thought when he said the words "pedal bone rotation" that was it - they also said after she suffered her second seizure and started with lami, that they weren't altogether sure of the situation and what they could do.
6 months down the line, look where we are :) hacking down the bridlepath in the sunshine!! (Although we aren't braving trot until she's altogether sound in the field!)
:D

That really good, very pleased for you. Know how you feel. When Izzy started to look better during treatment for her tear in her DDFT the feeling is great. Even more so when the vet confirmed what I thought. Sometimes it all seems to be all doom and gloom and its nice when things buck the trend and come right.

Long may it continue. It is a very special feeling when you can ride again.

We've been back on board now for about a month I'd say and I nearly cried when I got back on with a saddle and all!!
She's quite unfit gets sweaty after a hack in walk, but we will get there :)
just so happy, as we really didn't know what would happen - she became so lethargic and unhappy to look at her now you wouldn't think it was the same horse!!

The best feeling ever, I agree :D

The fitness will return and as your horse feels better they get an new enthusiasm for their work. Izzy now walks down hills very confidently whereas before she dawdled down them. Obviously I thought she was being lazy when in fact she was uncomfortable, just couldnt tell me so. She now out-walks others to the point we have to wait for them to catch up. Her muscle has returned and I think she looks the best she ever has. It all takes time and if you arent tempted to rush them, so much the better.

Good luck with her and let us know when you have your first trot.!! My trainer told me to work Iz in the bridle as much as possible, especially when going up hills, he was right as shes now got a lovely toned body. xx

Oh she batters round the field like a complete fruit cake! Sound in walk, canter and gallop just that slight niggle in trot :o we want her sound in trot in the field first :)
After we've got rid of that complete dozo of a farrier  and got this new guy in (who is like God to us atm!) she seems a lot happier on her feet has got her spirit back (x 10!) and is having an average of 2 hours exercise a day - one hacking, one turnout with a muzzle on.
We got told hills were a good thing for them :) she never really lost condition (but had to buy new girth from 48'' to 42''!) she always looked great but she wasn't herself :(
Steady improvement now the vet said, so fingers crossed it won't be long!!
I hope your girl's fully recovered now?

Shes doing remarkably well thankyou. The vet was quite guarded last Sept when he saw the damage on the MRI scan, but shes had a long time in, was handwalked for ages. Last winter saw me walking her on a night after work at 9pm!! She was then ridden but stabled - that was interesting. Had to be babysitted everywhere and if we saw anything in fields running about she turned into a launching mad mare lol! She just wanted to join them. She was given the go ahead to be turned out fully on 9th May and though I do think at times she feels a bit pottery, she is doing better than we had hoped and my trainer says looks perfectly sound. Just started a little canter work in the school now. We only do 15mins in there after a 15min walk around the block to warm her up. She just takes it all in her stride bless her. Shes got the weekend off now as Im off to Wales very early in the morning so a mini holiday for her. Will do her good actually to chill totally. That said, must go and get organised.

Enjoy your horse, its so rewarding when it all comes good - and stays good hopefully.!!!
