Anyone know of any vets in or around Scotland that specialize in navicular problems. Would go further afield but wanted to check relatively locally first :-)

Any equine vet will have a good indepth knowledge of navicular as it is so common. and you farrier will probably have an even better understanding of the syndrome.

My old boy with navicular was dealt with very well by the Dick Vet but as Nailed says, it's so common that most vets will have experience. Where they differ is in what they tell you to do next! I can't say I know of any that claim to specialise in navicular problems.

The thing with navicular is that there are quite a few causes and alot of cases of it every year. Normally seen in flat foot horses (TB's) but back int he 70's when the european horse started to be imported, our farriers were not used to there boxy feet and started to trim them down the have 'flatter' feet and alot of them experience Navicular.

If you want me to do you a write up of the condition let me know, Ill do it on word cause i keep deleting it on here lol!!

Also, trimmers are not trained with the same knowledge as farriers..

To be honest I find that unfair, they're not trained the same way - becuase then they'd be farriers! They're trained to trim a foot in such a way that the horse can use it effectively, they study nutrition, anatomy and its function and the effects of a horses environment on its feet. The UKNHCP & AEP are working with Lantra to establish a formal recognised quilification.
