What does everyone think of this situation

Horse had colic surgery not long ago

Mild
Colic a few weeks ago / vets came treated and settled was bright by the time the vets came

No cocnerns since

Monday colicked again no warnings , thrashing around sweating abdomen distended unable to keep the horse up

Vets called / normal vets that registered with / couldn’t attend staright away due to emergency they were currently dealing with approx time was 2
Hours but could be longer so we’re happy for another vet to come

Both vets discussed the case between them and it was decided the horse went to the vets overnight who attended as registered vet does not accomodate over night

Horse responded well overnight and was sent home with instructions for soft mashes only for now

Today doing ok rang normal vets for a plan going forward, re feeding : hay ect as this has been withheld

Rang through and asked for a vet to call he back got told well we didn’t see the horse so you will have to call the other vet despite the clinical history of the vet sending it over and speaking with them on the phone numerous times

I said I wasn’t very happy as the horses normal vets and they have the clinical history and it’s no different than one vet seeing them example on a Monday and then another vet another day from the same practice it’s no different

Spoke to them again and said I just need to speak to a vet as I appreciate the horse was seen by a differnt vet however the horses is registered with yourself , and no differnt than if a horse gets refered to referal hospital and then back home again needs rechecks they still have to go off clinical notes

They said they will get someone to call me back and no call back , I appreciate everyone is busy but I feel like very upset by the situation I rate this vets highly and now just a simple phone call clearly seems to much to ask despite not our choice to use somebody else which we did not complain understand and just dealt with the situation ,

Sorry for the rant 😩😩

Rant away.

This is the kind of thing I have to deal with when dealing with GP and oncology unit at hospital for my husband’s cancer. It ridiculous!

When I worked at an equine hospital we used to give buckets of grass to reverting horses before hay.

Don’t know if this has changed. I’d be tempted to ring substitute vet for advice and write an email to ask your usual vet what he thinks you should’ve done for advice!!

I have asked for a call back as
They have the clinical notes and they were well aware of everything that got done that night and the next morning

I just dodnt think it’s a lot to ask from my normal vets to call

But they didn't treat the horse overnight.
My argument is they were seen a one and then the care was to continue with own vets as discussed over the phone between the two vets once the horse was back home / and everyone has access to
Clinical notes the horse had surgery elsewhere and they have still been out and treated the horse twice since then
