My friend has asked me to post this on her behalf

She has a flat footed TB who seems to get bruised soles quite easily if ridden on a stony ground. The farrier has suggested Vettec Equi-Pac for him, and she was just wondering whether anyone had any experience with this, and if so whether it was economically worth it too

Thanks!

no experience but i have a similar problem with my TB. solved it by getting the farrier to put gel pads in. expensive but worth every penny as after spending nearly six months lame with bruised soles he has not suffered one since.

Yes... and IMO were a total waste of money as they shrunk and then fell out in the space of 2 weeks. Unusual according to the manufacturer but if didn't help my horse!!

I have have a very flat footed TB and have used with great sucess horse-trax pads (they are hard wearing pads with a gel insert - best googled!!) they are about £18 and we tend to use them for two shoings...... wonderful things

Hi, i used these on my horse a few times. Definatley do the job well, only thing that bothered me was the price. My horse has quite big feet and i needed one and a half tubes per foot, at £15 a tube it was quite expensive! At the moment my farrier uses normal rubber pads and then puts silicone underneath. This works well but money allowing i would go back to equi-pak in a minute. As my farrier puts it, it's like nike air max for horses!

I had a TB once who needed Equipak but it was very expensive and I didn't notice a huge improvement with him (he was a bit pottery on bad going). The important thing is to make sure the hoof is really dry before the stuff goes on, as any water makes it fall straight back out again. It's also best used with eggbar shoes for more support to the heel and damn stuff stays in better!
