So I've just had a horse vetted and it's only just turned 4. Lovely horse, but its dragging it's left hind on the lunge and on the left rein when ridden. Vet has passed the vetting with a ?, but advised me to get hock and stifle xrayed on left hind. I've agreed to pay half the cost of the xrays if they come back clean. If they do come back clean, then should I have anything else to worry about, or do you think it's just a case of building the horse up as it's weak. I've had an awful experience with my 12 year old and now have to retire him due to hock and stifle issues and I honestly thought that I would have better luck with a young horse.

With the history with your current horse, I understand your nervousness, and I think I would walk away and find something without any issue or weakness behind.

yes, it can just be strengthening but a new horse is meant to be joyful and exciting and I think you are likely to worry, even if it could resolve itself.

mid also be more inclined to think it was just strengthening if both back legs had a slight drag. Personally its more of a red flag that it is just one leg doing it

I’m just so deflated as she’s great. I don’t know what to do for the best

My mare drags when she’s lazy or bored but goes properly when asked or doing something interesting (21)
She’s seen a vet multiple times nothing wrong with her we can find ??‍♀️
