All i can say is

OUCH!!!!

The vets have just told me it's £150 + VAT plus £28.50+ Vat call out charge and if it takes over an hour i get charged per hour on top of that!!!!!

So thats a fair chunk of his tack money gone

Ooo I'd be getting a different vet.

A five star vetting will quite often take more than an hour. My horses certainly did.

I think I paid £195 in total.

I posted about this the other day on behalf of a friend. It cost her £170 yesterday for a 2 stage vetting!
And the pony failed, she's gutted.
She's lame due to a kick to the shoulder a couple of weeks ago, so the vet said to leave it for 4 weeks and then they will come back out and do a re vet for free (just the call out fee)

Fingers crossed she will be sound by then.

TBH, I would think that fee is fairly reasonable. My vet charges approx £250. The standard fee round here is £250-£300, with a friend paying as much as £450

don't think she has recovered from the shock yet and the horse failed

I had a 2 stage vetting done a month ago on my new horse.I got my bill today for £152 including vat.I didn't ask how much it was going to cost to do but the vets were very thorough and I must admit I was pleased that he passed the vetting.

I had a 5 stage done and it was about £250 including VAT - this was in the South East about 2 years ago and they had to travel about 30 odd miles. It took almost 2 hours though as I said I wanted to event him so she had to make sure he was up to the job.

If you are getting a 5 stage done it is worth saying that you want to event as the vet will hold the horse up to the highest standard. If you say RC stuff then it will be vetted to a lower level.

That sounds complete normal for a 5 stage vetting

I requested a vet cert for a horse someone wanted to insure. They don't want to get one as they said it will cost £500. I am not convinced and if that was the case I'd be looking at another vet!

I think £200-£250 is probably about right for a 5 stage vetting. You have to take into account how far the vet has to travel as well. If it is a long way then i would suggest gettinga recommendation of a horse vet nearer to the horse (not the vendors vet though!)
