Looked at a gelding today. Loved riding him, thought he was great to handle etc. Going back tomorrow for a longer hack. If this goes well I will get him vetted.
I live about an hour and a half away and am going to be a bit stuck close to home once the school holiday starts on Friday - car sick children...
I don't use any equine vets because I don't have a horse yet, and wondered if any of you in this part of Somerset had any recommendations of which vet to use and what I need to do. Do I ring from home and ask them to contact the horse's owner to arrange everything? And when do I pay?
The horse is not expensive and is going to be used for hacking and fun. He is 6 years' old. But, I can't afford to keep a horse that I is unfit for riding. I have handled the horse extensively etc but I am pretty useless at picking up on medical problems. Should I get a 5 point vetting? How much on average does this cost? And does it matter that I will not be able to get there for the vetting because of the children?
