Hi all,
sorry i originally posted this in the hunting forum by accident, i do apologize i'm not with it today.

Cant believe im saying this... there might be a slight chance of me getting my 1st pony trying not to get too excited as its only a maybe...

Anyway we were looking into vetting etc as I've never had to do anything like this before!
I've herd of stage 2,3&5 vetting but not sure what they consist off...
Could someone please explain to me! and also the rough costs for each if poss, i live in south-east if that's any help cost wise.
Thank you:)

Depending on what you want the pony to do would depend on which vetting to go for.
2 stage vetting is just a general health check really
5 stage vetting includes the above, checks the horse at work, rest and recovery rate, flexion tests, bloods if required and you can have additionals like x-rays

Hope that gives you a better idea

When you insure a new horse, and depending on things like its value, what you will be doing with it etc etc, many insurers will ask for proof of a 5 stage vetting having been done. It may be more expensive than a 2-stage (or no vetting at all) but just browse through the Forum posts and you will see hundreds and hundreds of people who have bought a new horse without a vetting and it's all ended in tears. Often, mega tears, ie unrideable horse, unsellable horse, massive vet bills. Get the 5-stage and you're as covered as it's possible to be. Any seller who won't let you have a vetting done, WALK AWAY!

I would go 5 stage, cost will vary slightly between vets plus their travel time. Best to give a few a call that are local to the pony to get some prices. Do not use the sellers vet.
