I was just wondering what other people would do in my situation...

I have been riding the horse for 4 months and had no lameness whatsoever (even when she was covered in mud rash). She has had her back and teeth done while with me, all is fine, and she is now fit enough to deal with the amount of work she is getting.

So, as you know my Dad bought her for my birthday, money already gone through (he is not horsey at all)... But, would you have her vetted now she was yours if you were me?

You know what they say, never look a gift horse in the mouth! If you need a vetting for insurances purposes then go ahead but otherwise what are you going to do if she fails, reject your Dad's gift?

I bourght a pony along time ago and when my vet came out for something else i ask if i should get it vetted, he said I wouldnt bother as you have it now. He checked its wind and eyes when he gave its vaccinations etc.
I would'nt vet it, if you find anything wrong you would have to declare this to the insurance.. Vetting is also done for suitablity for the rider too. get its eyes and wind checked tho..

I would if I was you - more to detect anything that could go wrong so you are prepared. I put 2 stage vetting as these are not as expensive and you already know you are going to keep her.

Unless you need the horse vetting to get insurance on it then I don't see any point of doing it...you own the horse so what are you going to gain. The vets will get enough money off you over your years of ownership, don't start giving them extra for no reason.

I dont think i would bother to be honest, unless of course there was something playing on my mind that i felt wasn't quite right.

You own her now so there is no point, if your happy and she is happy and coping perfectly well with the work then why bother.

We had a mare on loan for 1 year just as we were about to buy her she violently threw my Mum off. We returned her to owner and later found out she had done the same thing before despite not putting a foot wrong or showing any sign of discomfort for nearly a year she had kissing spines.

I ticked 5 stage
