Hi,

I was just wondering whether you would get a vetting done on a 14yr old horse that was being sold for £500?

He is being sold to a good home rather then for the money hence the price. The owner has been honest and told me of an injury he had which he is now fully sound from.

Thanks

Personally, no but I'd want the reason horse was being sold to ring true in case I was taking on something that was going to cost me a mint in vet's bills. You could always ask to speak to their vet about it's medical history? A £500 horse might not pass the vet but could have years of useful and happy life left. if anything seems dodgy, I'd walk away but if it seems a nice horse who will do the job you want, it is worth taking a chance on. I bought my TB at 12 without a vetting but I had him on a weeks trial and I knew his history for the previous 3 years, he's still with me at 25 and until he got into his 20's hadn't cost me a penny in vet's bills! He did, however, cost a lot more than £500.

Personally yes! A 14 yr old has a lot of years left and potential to wrack up all sorts of vets bills so you needs to know that you are starting off without any worrying problems
