We are not a big yard - 10 horses. So far this year we have lost 2 - 1 mid teens with v bad fetlock arthritis & my 21 yo with arthritis & bad sarcoids. ATM we have 1 9yo who is waiting to go to Rossdales for scintigraphy & it's not looking good for him (looks like low ringbone in front & PSD in rear) behind & a 15 yo (ex show jumper with history of lameness) whose owner is phoning the Vet today & is fearing the worst. Both owners really love their horses.
The 9yo is shared by the lady who had the horse with fetlock arthritis & her daughter so a really bad year for them. So unfair as they really look after their horses & they have both had issues that were underlying for some time but didn't show at vetting.

It's so hard, especially when you're a close-knit, small yard. We had a bad year like this a couple of years back, including the loss of two foals. The only positive was that we could support each other through it. I do hope the news for the owners isn't as bad a feared :(

:(:(:( (((((((((((hugs)))))))))) to you all. I hope things get better for you soon. Hopefully the news with the other two wount be so bad. I have everything crossed you get some better news.

Anyone who loves their horses enough to keep them well into the twilight years is eventually going to be faced with heartache. The harder losses are the young and fit ones. Either way it's horribly tough and bad luck seems to run in packs. My thoughts are with all concerned.
