VHS

Not sure how accurate this is but my friend did a few with her old boy. I think you enter a VHS class, you wear a bridle disk with your horse's age on it and if you get placed to a certain place in your age group you go forwards to the local champs which are usually at a later date. If you win that, you qualify for hoys or possibly olympia? classes are split into three age groups and take the usual format of everyone walk round etc, then individual show. Oh and there are both in-hand and ridden sections. Have fun! There is some serious competition- round here a coloured cob who won loads (is now 16 i think) wins everything.

Thanks. So I will have to wait and see what is local for me.

I have been doing VHS classes with my boy for the last 18 months or so and it is great fun!!

What would you like to know??

They usually run them in age sections such as:
PRE-VETERAN 15 - 19 years old
VETERAN 20-24 years old
VETERAN-PLUS 25 years & over
except when they run special shows such as the 2 day show at Arena UK recently.

Here is a piccie of my boy winning the Arab & Part bred Championship back in October:

Well..... she is 15 next year and would like to do the ridden classes. How do you find out which ones are local?

This is her. She does dish, does that matter?

Have a look on www.veteran-horse-society.co.uk , they put most of the dates on there.

As loobylu said previously you are expected to display your horses age and walk, trot and canter in a group and then perform an individual show. They judge it on the horses way of going in relation to age, and also his character and lust for the job . I don't think they mark against things such as dishing and i have always found it fair as you are competing against horses of a similar age. Having said that Shear H2o competes in some of the VHS classes around me but to have such a celebrity in the ring with you is an honour let alone having the opportunity to compete alongside him!! LOL!!

I have always found the other competitors to be absolutely lovely and it has given my Benji a new lease of life after his jumping days. I thoroughly enjoy my days competing with the VHS and would highly recommend anyone else with a veteran to have a go, hope you have lots of fun and let us know how you get on!!

Thats fine, anytime!!

Its Corroy isn't it?? Im sure she will do very well, she looks absolutely lovely, hope you have a lots of fun next year!!

To add to the above. Judges do not mark on whether the horse dishes or not. They mark the walk, trot and canter (if you gallop, your canter mark is 0 )
They mark on the horse's personality, cleanliness and fitting of tack etc.
If you use a double, make sure you use a lip strap etc.
No earrings, no spurs.
