Got a call before 6 this morning to say my 27yo pony was down in the field. Shot up to the yard & I really thought this is it - flat out, glazed expression. Called Vet out. Heart sounds fine but he is obviously in pain. Symptoms are a bit contradictory so he has had an injection of strong painkiller & now we are just keeping fingers crossed that it's colic & he is being a bit wimpy in his reaction & not anything more sinister. He's up now the painkiller has kicked in, so I have dashed home to get some milk for tea.

Just got back again. When I got back to the yard he was walking around & nibbling at bits of grass. He's in the fattie's paddock during the day, so I let his fatty paddock field mate in with him & they are wandering around together. I hung around for a while to keep an eye on him & he's looking almost like his usual self - back to coming over to check my pockets when I go in the field except walking over instead of trotting. He's had a few big farts so, touch wood, it looks like he's a wimp when it comes to colic.

That's great news!

I had a mare who did the same thing. The amount of times I called the vet in a panic as I thought she was dying and every time it turned out to be something fairly minor!

Always worth being sure though!

Thanks for the vibes - they worked! Yesterday morning the Vet was preparing me for the worst - this morning he is his normal, piggy little self! Kept him n the fatty paddock last night to make sure he didn't gorge himself & he was telling me in no uncertain term he wants back with the others on the good grass. Making him wait until tonight though, just in case.
