Just had the vet as I've been increasingly worried about her mouth conformation. Since the dentist was last here in December she has lost a tooth and her 2 very back teeth on her lower jaw are at 90 degrees to where they should be, hence sticking into the sides of her mouth and causing her problems with feeding.
My vet was surprised at how good condition she is in considering the amount of food stuck in her mouth due to the missing tooth. Also very surprised my dentist had dismissed her problems as not serious.
He told me mouths like hers can lead to colic and ulcers as well as very poor condition and constant discomfort.
He said he has never seen anything like it. She has to have at least those back 2 teeth out and while she is sedated they will do what they can to make her comfortable again.
Aww bless my bestest girl in the world.
Please send good vibes for her for next week when she goes to the dental clinic. Shes 18, retired and the horsey love of my life.

Poor old lady

Wishing her well.

Ooh poor girl, I utterly hate teh dentist so feel especialy sorry for her!

Hope it all gets sorted after the dentist has been in there. Can I ask did they mention if it was linked to her breeding? My dentist mentioned that Arab can have problems with the dish in their face (not that my Arab has much of adish, more of a dent where I think she was dropped as a foal!)

Anyway vibes from me!

fingers crossed from me too. Just been through it with my 19 year old - but feet and I know everything starts to be more worrying once they are older.

But as someone posted for me - these old ones are tough ones - and it is true

Thank you all....feel bad now for saying nobody cared on the forum clout thread.........

I asked the vet whether it was related to her breeding and he didn't seem to think so, she hasn't got a really dished face or any dents (so maybe wasn't dropped as a foal)

Hope all goes well for your horse and she is back to normal very quickly. As a bit of encouragement, a horse at my yard had a large fractured back tooth removed a few weeks ago, within a few days he was absolutely fine. Eating normally and being a loon in the field. Horses seem to cope a lot better than humans about having their teeth removed !!

She is gorgeous.

Best of luck for the surgery next week. She should feel so much better when it's all over.
