Was having a lovely lie in this morning, all girl dogs had got on bed for a nap with me and little boy dog had gone out with OH to poo pick garden pre mowing. Cue screams from next to me on bed, the other two girls jumping up like they had been shot and me hurtling from very relaxed to utter panic in 0.2 of a second. Tilly our lurcher was screaming the house down, now had half got up and was staggering around the bed, there was a large pulse in the top of her head, ears clamped to head, and every time i went to touch her she let out another ear splitting scream. I ran out the room to look for the OH, other dogs followed and tilly attempted to stagger behind, still screaming. I locked the other dogs outside and finally located the OH in garden, threw phone at him and got him to ring vet and sit with her while I got dressed. I seriously thought she was dieing infront of me. Tilly was a rescue i took in 6 years ago (a year old at time) and was the worst mentally scarred i have ever had, (pretty bad physically too but have had worse) took me weeks to get near her let alone anything else, and no one else could for months. She is the only rescue I have ever just kept without a thought of rehoming. Since then she has never had a sick or sorry day, only ever visiting the vet for vaccinations yearly. I really thought that this was it, she was gone

We got to vet and she was alot calmer, pulse had gone in head and she could walk without stumbling all over, my pulse rate was also dropping! The vet examined her to the best of her capability but she becomes ultra submissive still to being manipulated by a stranger and flops on the floor so the vet asked me to bend her neck round to left, I did, cue blood curdling scream and slightly wobbly dog. Vet is sure she has run into something, damaged her neck and when she was asleep the whole thing went into spasm and triggered a seizure.
Shes on a high dose of metacam for pain and swelling and has to be kept quiet for a week at least with a close eye kept on her, shes very subdued and poorly looking, please give her lots of healing vibes, and a few vibes for my heart which got significantly weakened this morning I'm sure! heres some pics of the lovely t-bag.

Huge vibes for your gorgeous lurcher - hope the Metacam sorts her out, I am sure she will be back to her old self before too long but how heart-stopping for you

Sending loads of vibes. My Dads whippet had something similar to this years ago. Her screams were awful, can't remember all the details as it was probably about 25 years ago, she did make a full recovery though.

One of my late old dogs had been in for an sudden ear infection when they used a new brand on the stuff they put in the ears, next day when the last of the painkillers from the operation left her system, she screamed like nothing I've heard before or since and run around the house like a blind loon, we had to put a leash on her to stop her from breaking a leg. Being certain it must be caused by some sort of pain and having painkillers for dogs at home, we gave her what we thought was the appropriate dose for her body size and said that if the painkillers by some reason killed her, so be it, at least she wouldn't feel whatever pain it was she was feeling. When we came to the vet it turned out that it was caused by an allergic reaction to the ear stuff and all her ears was like one big bright red wound from the eardrum and up, no wonder that she had tried to run away from it.

So with lots of sympathy for how the screams affected your heart, I send {{{Hugs}}} to you and {{{Vibes}}} to your girl, with the hope that she gets well soon. And to think that with that pain, your girl, due to her history but still, didn't say anything when the vet examined her...

thanks for the vibes guys. she's not had a seizure this morning upon waking, which the vet was concerned about. She is yelping every so often when moving her neck the wrong way but the metacam seems to be keeping the internal inflammation down. Shes just managed to pootle outside and lie out in the morning sun, thankfully she doesnt appear to feel like being anymore active than that at the moment!

I'm glad she hasn't had another one - all the best for the future too. My lurcher has seizures too, although she doesn't seem to be in pain, just terrified and unable to stand up. The vet thinks she is epileptic but because she only has one or two a year he says it's not worth putting her on meds. Your girl is gorgeous, I hope she is back to her old self soon!
